Jasper firefighters quickly doused a blaze in the engine compartment of a small piece of heavy equipment on Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported at about 2:30 on property owned by James “Jim” R. Willett, Jr. and Susan M. Willett, of Nederland, and it was located on the north side of Highway 63 West in the Curtis Community.
It appeared that the piece of equipment was being used to clear land when it caught on fire.
Meanwhile, it’s unknown what caused the blaze to break out. No injuries were reported and no other property was damaged.
