Jasper County Judge Mark Allen announced Tuesday that the county has recorded a third death of a Coronavirus patient. This news comes as numbers continue to climb, especially in the northern end of the county where the illness was very inactive early on.

According to Judge Allen, the only information that he was able to garner was that the victim was an elderly lady from Buna, and she died Tuesday in a Beaumont hospital. She is the second female from Buna to die from the illness, while the first Coronavirus related death in Jasper County was a man who resided in Jasper.

Meanwhile, Judge Allen said that active cases among the 198 inmates at the Goodman Prison Unit in Jasper are being counted separately by the State of Texas. However, he said that he is trying to determine whether the 18 employees at the Goodman Unit that have currently active cases are also being counted separately by the state, or, if the employees are counted in the county in which they live.
