Jasper High School officials announced late Thursday morning that Bonfire has been canceled yet again, and yet again it's due to rain. On Wednesday, Assistant Principal Ron Vickers said that the plan was to monitor the approach of rain into the region, and if there was a break in the weather they would try to light the stack.
However, National Weather Service Doppler Radar on Thursday showed a very large amount of rain associated with a cold front sliding southward into our area from the north.
Vickers also said on Wednesday that if Bonfire had to be canceled again, school officials would instead plan to hold it the night before our first playoff game. However, we don't know yet who, when, or where Jasper will play in that first playoff game pending the outcome of Friday night's game against Center.
Bonfire was scheduled to take place a few weeks ago as part of Homecoming Week activities, but rain and other factors caused it to be postponed.
