Dade Phelan VA Map 680.jpg

State Representative Dade Phelan, who represents Jefferson and Orange Counties, has written a letter to President Donald Trump asking him to convert one, or both, defunct Golden Triangle hospitals into VA Hospitals. The map shows the current VA medical locations in this region of Texas.

A Texas State Representative who recently sent a letter to the President asking to create a VA Hospital in the Golden Triangle has now launched an online petition drive to accomplish the goal.

Dade Phelan, who represents Jefferson and Orange Counties, has asked President Donald Trump to create a Veterans Administration Hospital at either one or both of the defunct hospital buildings. They were St Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur and Baptist Hospital in Orange, both of which have closed in recent years.

Phelan’s petition is on the Whitehouse.gov website, and it needs 100,000 signatures in 30 days in order to go to the next review phase.

Currently, military veterans in the Jasper area are about an hour drive away from either the Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic in Lufkin, or the Beaumont VA Clinic.
