Jasper County Judge Mark Allen said Wednesday that it’s expected that debris pickup will soon begin here. Judge Allen said Jasper County has been approved for the Texas Department of Transportation and their various contractors to do the job.

However, Judge Allen said that TXDOT and their contractors are currently working in Newton County, which was within the eye wall of Hurricane Laura on August 27th and sustained heavier damage than Jasper County. Allen said when they’re finished in Newton County, the crews should begin pickup up debris in Jasper County.

Judge Allen says it’s expected to be a two-phase project with crews first gathering storm debris along highways, and then a second sweep which will be on the county roads.

Meanwhile, Judge Allen is reminding people to not place storm debris on right-of-ways, and instead pile it next to the road or highway.
