The Jasper City Council met in a special called session on Friday and in that meeting they amended the city’s current ordinance regarding the number of mobile homes allowed on one piece of land, and also pushed back the upcoming Municipal Election due to concerns about Coronavirus.

The old ordinance regarding manufactured homes was very limiting to property owners regarding the number of houses that a landowner could place on a property, dependent upon its size.

However, the new ordinance, which passed with a unanimous vote, states that an unlimited number of mobile homes can be placed on a piece of property, but only if they can meet certain spacing requirements from other house on the property as well as the property boundaries.

The new ordinance states that each mobile home:

~ Must be at least 20 feet from another house on the property

~ Must be at least 30 feet from the back of the property

~ Must be at least 20 feet from the front of the property

~ Must be at least 10 feet from the side of the property

In other action, Council voted to delay the Municipal Election, which was scheduled for May 2nd, and will now be held on November 3rd. This is because of the ongoing threat of Coronavirus and restrictions in place pertaining to it.

The Jasper ISD Board Election, which is held in conjunction with the Municipal Election, has also been moved to November 3rd as well.
