The Jasper County Commissioners Court met in special session on Wednesday morning and they have given the go-ahead to Sheriff Mitchel Newman to apply for a $150,000.00 grant to improve radio communications.

The grant is through the Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance Program and according to Newman, if approved, the money will be used to purchase new mobile and portable radios for deputies.

Additionally, Newman said on Wednesday that repairs are currently underway at the tower and antenna sites to correct recent issues with radio communication.

Meanwhile, Jasper County Emergency Corps President Billy Williford recently said that repairs and adjustments on their radio system has improved their communication abilities.
