A Jasper County deputy was involved in a high speed pursuit Sunday morning with a vehicle that had just been reported stolen in Orange County. It happened shortly before 8:00 on Highway 96 near Evadale.

The deputy said that the driver of the black Honda car, which was stolen in Vidor, was refusing to stop and was fleeing from her at speeds up to 100 miles-per-hour.

The chase went into Hardin County, but ended soon thereafter when she said that the driver wrecked the car and then fled on foot into a wooded area. Sheriff Mitchel Newman later said that although the suspect escaped, they know his identity and will be requesting an arrest warrant.
