The husband of a Burkeville woman says his wife remains in extremely critical condition after she was involved in an early Friday morning accident in north Newton County. Meanwhile, he says the family still covets prayers not only for his wife, but also for the people in the other vehicle and their family.
Joe Evans is the husband of 74-year-old Gloria Evans, who remains in the intensive care unit of an Alexandria, Louisiana hospital. Evans said his wife has undergone four surgeries as the staff there battles to keep her alive.
The accident occurred on Highway 63, about 6 miles west of Burkeville. According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Mrs. Evans was leaving a private driveway when her 2015 Mazda passenger vehicle was struck on the driver side by a 2011 Dodge passenger vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Kynishia Roberts, also of Burkeville.
Evans was flown from the scene to Alexandria, while Roberts and her 6-month-old baby were transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Joe Evans said when he received word that his wife was experiencing severe internal bleeding, he remembered the scripture in Ezekiel 16:6, "And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live."
Evans said he shared this scripture with the nurse as she and the doctors were preparing for surgery. Fortunately, Evans said they were able to stop the internal bleeding after his wife had lost about four pints of blood.
