KJAS has confirmed through reliable sources that longtime Jasper attorney Bill McGraw has died as the result of injuries he received in a multiple vehicle auto accident that occurred west of Houston on Monday afternoon.
McGraw, 89, reportedly died shortly after his arrival at a hospital in Katy. Three other people who were riding in the vehicle with McGraw, his son Dr. David McGraw of Many and two longtime friends, Jimmy Ellis, a Jasper building contractor and Danny Barnhart a retired state trooper and investigator, also from Jasper were shaken up but not injured.
The accident which involved eight vehicles, including a large eighteen wheeled tractor trailer truck, reportedly occurred shortly before 2:00 on Interstate 10, near the small community of San Felipe on a section of the roadway, which was under construction.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has not released a complete report on the accident or what caused it, but KPRC in Houston is reporting that the series of events began when a tire blew on a vehicle and the driver got out leaving it in the roadway.
