Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso has confirmed that two people are dead following an accident that occurred involving a charter bus and a dump truck on Monday morning near the Texas-Louisiana State Line on Pleasure Island.

Police at the scene say the bus, which was owned and operated by Hotard, had returned from Southwest Louisiana after taking workers to their jobs at a plant. The dump truck was heading in that direction and the vehicles hit head-on at about 7:15 a.m. on Highway 82, not far from the Walter Umphrey State Park.

What caused the crash is unknown and officers were, at last word, still investigating the accident as the roadway between Port Arthur and Cameron, Louisiana remained closed.

The names of the dead and other additional information have not been released at this time.
