The Jasper City Council on Monday unanimously approved a budget for the upcoming year, which calls for just over $27 million dollars in spending and an associated increase in taxes.
The proposed budget as passed and adopted raises the amount of spending to $27,126,844 in the 2019-2020 fiscal year as compared to $26,876,494 last year. Also passed was a tax rate of .3579 per $100 dollars in property evaluation in the upcoming year as compared to .3182 in the last year.
The measure passed following a public hearing in which no one spoke or questioned the spending or the tax increase.
In other action, the council selected District 1 Council Member Anderson Land Jr. as the nominee for it’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Jasper County Appraisal District. Chris Poole currently represents the City and the Jasper Independent School District on the J.C.A.D. Board.
In other action, the City Council presented an award to Sue Dear who has served in the Jasper Public Library for over 25 years. Also honored but not present was Kimberly Spikes who has worked at City Hall for over 25 years.
District 4 City Council Member Raymond Hopson was not present at the Monday’s meeting.
