Jasper firefighters say that a malfunctioning kitchen appliance was the cause of smoke in a house late Monday afternoon. It happened shortly before 5:00 at a residence on Traylor Street in northeast Jasper.

Firemen said the problem was an overheating refrigerator motor.

There was no actual fire or damage.
