The Texas Water Development Board has announced that some $63.6 million in funds for flood mitigation assistance grants has been authorized, and of that $16.4 million will be going to Jefferson County.
In recent years Jefferson County along with the rest of the Golden Triangle has been hit with massive flooding, most notably from Hurricane Harvey in 2017. However, the Texas Water Development Board announcement did not mention an allocation of funds for any other southeast Texas counties.
The rest of the funds will be going to Harris County and other cities and counties directly around Houston.
According to the Texas Water Development Board, the grants are funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and were approved through an application process. A total of thirteen applications were approved.
