Funeral services have now been set for 13-year-old shooting victim Nickolas Trevon McBride. The Jasper Junior High student died on Friday night, about 90 minutes after he suffered a gunshot wound to the head at a home on County Road 356, a few miles south of Jasper.
According to Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper, family, friends, and classmates will gather for Nick’s funeral on Saturday where he attended school. Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
Meanwhile, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says the investigation is continuing into the youngster’s death. On Tuesday, Lieutenant Scotty Duncan and Sheriff Mitchel Newman said that the gunshot was not self-inflicted, as was first thought, but instead was the result of the weapon being accidentally discharged by another child.
Duncan said that he and Sheriff Newman had asked District Attorney Anne Pickle to assist in the investigation and indications are that the case might be turned over to the Grand Jury for its review.
