The Jasper County Grand Jury convened on Thursday and, after hearing evidence as submitted by District Attorney Anne Pickle and her staff, handed down indicted indictments charging 22 people with various crimes.
David Banda, 23, of Jasper - Three June of 2019 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Banda is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child less than 14 years of age.
Darin Lee West, 34, of Buna – July 2020 charge of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle or watercraft. West is accused of fleeing in a vehicle from a state trooper.
William Newton Cobb, 38, of Jasper; Justin Michael Denby, 27, of San Augustine; Joseph Scott Ryder, 52, of Vidor; and Jeffrey Alan Sturrock, 55, of Jasper – August 2019 charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. The four are accused of participating in an aggravated robbery.
Vincent Andrew Craft, 31, of Kirbyville – Two August 2018 charges of criminal mischief. Craft is accused of crashing a Jeep into a house on County Road 565 near Kirbyville.
Anthony McGowan, 20, of Buna – December 2019 charge of theft of a firearm. McGowan is accused of stealing a gun owned by Joe Walker.
Troy Grice, 49, of Groveton – April 2019 charge of timber trustee defraud. Grice is accused of conducting an alleged scheme from January 2019 to April 2019 in which he allegedly harvested timber owned by the Lanier Family Trust #1, and then sold the timber, keeping the profit, without paying the Lanier Family Trust #1 the purchase price of the standing timber.

An indictment by the Grand Jury does not mean that the persons named are guilty of any crime, but instead only indicates that the jurors felt that enough evidence existed in each case to merit a trial.
