A teenager is undergoing treatment for injuries she received in a Tuesday evening accident involving an all-terrain vehicle that was being driven on a county road. It happened shortly before 6:00 at the intersection of County Roads 249 and 256, just north of Jasper.
The girl, later identified by family and DPS as 15-year-old Aimee Coleson, of Jasper, was driving the Polaris ATV eastbound on County Road 256. Sergeant Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety said that Coleson hit a sand bed and over-corrected, which resulted in the ATV rolling over. Davis said Coleson was thrown out of the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
An ambulance crew transported her to Jasper Memorial Hospital, and she was later flown by medical helicopter to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
Davis said the girl's father, 52-year-old Eddie Coleson, was a passenger in the vehicle and he sustained minor injuries.
The accident was investigated by State Trooper Curtis Bennett.
