Officers with the Jasper Police Department said Thursday that a suspect had been charged in connection with the recent shooting that left a teenager injured on the north side of town.
Lieutenant Garrett Foster said Justin DeBourgoise, 22, of Jasper, who was already jailed after being charged with Evading Arrest or Detention, was served with a warrant charging him with Deadly Conduct and Discharge of a Firearm in connection with the shooting.
Officers believe DeBourgoise was the man who fired numerous shots from a rifle into the back of a car on Hi Truitt Road shortly after midnight on Monday, June 7th. One of the shots hit 17-year-old Jerrel Hafford, who was a passenger in the back seat.
Foster said shortly after the incident occurred, an investigation identified DeBourgoise as a suspect in the case and the weapon used in the crime was located and recovered by Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman and Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan.
Bond on DeBourgoise was set at $14,000.00 and he has since been released from the Jasper County Jail on bond.
