Tyler County sheriff Bryan Weatherford says one man is dead and another is injured following a shooting that involved a stolen vehicle and other items.

Weatherford said his deputies responded at about 2:00 Wednesday afternoon to a home off of Farm to Market Road 1943 in the Fred Community on a report of a vehicle being there which had been reported stolen in Hardin County.

While deputies were enroute, Weatherford said they learned that a shooting had occurred there, and they arrived to find a man suffering a gunshot wound. Weatherford said he was transported by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital where he died soon after.

Weatherford noted that the man who was shot and killed was the driver of the stolen vehicle, and he said the man who shot him was also injured.

According to Weatherford, deputies took witness statements from those who were there, but he gave no other details about the incident, including the identities of those involved.

Meanwhile, Weatherford said items were found inside the vehicle which had been reported stolen in both Jasper and Tyler County.

Weatherford said “Pending autopsy results, Investigators will be presenting the case to the Tyler County District Attorney’s Office for review.”
