23-year-old Joaquin resident Alexander Nathan Barter, also known as the “Dark Web Cannibal”, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison after he made a deal with an undercover officer to kill his teenage daughter, have sex with her body, and then eat her body.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, Barter pleaded guilty to child exploitation charges in December of 2019, and on Thursday his sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale, which also included a lifetime of supervision following his release from prison.

Federal prosecutor Stephen J. Cox says that in October 2018, Barter posted an advertisement on a website that read “I’d like to try necrophilia and cannibalism, and see how it feels to take a life. If you’d be willing to let me kill you, are in the US (preferably in the south) and can travel by car, contact me.”

According to Cox, the undercover officer contacted Barter and pretended to be the father of a 13-year-old girl in Florida. In messages exchanged between the two, Barter repeatedly told the officer that he wanted to rape, kill, and eat the child.

Cox says after setting up a meeting spot in Shelby County, officers met Barter there and discovered that he had in his possession a knife and a trash bag, among other items.

The crime was very disturbing to those who investigated it, including Federal Agent Mark Dawson in Houston who said “In my 23-year-career in law enforcement, this is among the most morally depraved and appalling criminal conspiracies that I have come across. Without the quick and decisive actions of special agents from HSI Cocoa Beach and HSI Beaumont, this disturbed predator would still be out there looking for potential victims to carry out his sick and demented fantasies.”
