A badly injured man was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont early Thursday morning. The Angelina River and Beech Grove Fire Departments were dispatched out shortly after daybreak to County Road 97 in the Peachtree Community when it was reported that a man had been impaled by a tractor implement.
Firefighters blocked traffic for a brief time as an Acadian EMS helicopter landed on Highway 63 West and loaded the unidentified patient.
According to Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter, the victim was 90-years-old and he had been impaled by a steel potato rake through the arm near the elbow.
Gunter also said it’s not known how long he had been injured. According to Gunter, the man lived alone and it just so happened that a person walking on County Road 97 heard him yelling for help.
