The Angelina County Sheriff’s Department says the bodies of a man and his dog were found in a submerged vehicle in Lake Sam Rayburn on Sunday.

According to information released by the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to Marion Ferry Public Boat Ramp off of Farm to Market Road 1669 North, which is near the very top of the lake, after someone reported seeing what appeared to be a vehicle under water about 100 feet from the boat ramp.

The sheriff’s department said the vehicle was pulled out of the water, and once on land they discovered inside the body of 74-year-old Thomas Neil Jacobs, of Lufkin, and his dog.

The Angelina County Sheriff’s Department said it appears to have been a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected. Meanwhile, and autopsy was ordered.
