A Buna senior citizen who launched a petition drive in an effort to save the Jasper County Committee on Aging’s Meals Program says that he will present the signatures at the next JCCOA Board meeting, which will be Wednesday morning. Even though JCCOA Director Mitch McMillon announced last week that more funding has been obtained and the program will go on, Norris Dunn says he has 455 signatures on his petitions and he’s going to present them anyway.

“I want them, that board, to know that we’re serious. We want them to know that we’re watching where our tax dollars go and we’re watching what they do with that money”, said Mr. Dunn on Tuesday afternoon.

Dunn started his petition drive about two weeks ago, just after McMillon announced the cessation of the in-house congregate meals program, although McMillon said that the Meals on Wheels program would continue to deliver boxes of frozen microwaveable meals to the homes of senior citizens in the area.

The Jasper County Committee on Aging Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 9:30 on Wednesday morning at the Jasper Senior Center, which is at 409 North Fletcher Street.
