Jasper, Newton, and West Orange-Stark are still ranked at the top in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine, while Silsbee took a tumble following a home loss to Port Neches-Groves.
Due to a lightning storm, Jasper was unable to play Lumberton on opening weekend of the 2019 Texas high school football season. Regardless, the Dawgs this week maintained their #2 ranking in 4-A Division II, while West Orange-Stark, after starting the season at #5, was bumped up to the #3 slot right behind Jasper after a 21-20 win at Nederland.
This sets up a meeting later this year between the Bulldogs and the Mustangs that will be one of, if not the biggest games in the state that weekend. On Friday, October 4th, #2 Jasper will play at #3 West Orange-Stark.
Meanwhile, they’re still trying to figure out what happened in Silsbee. The Tigers, ranked #3 in 4-A Div II to begin the season, tumbled down to the #7 slot this week after a 48-35 home loss to Port Neches-Groves in the season opener.
Over in Newton, it’s business as usual. Newton is still firmly dug in at the #1 spot in Class 3-A Div II.
Newton got off a very late start at Kirbyville on Friday, they were delayed by the same storm that caused cancellations at both Jasper and West Sabine.
When they finally got it going, Newton ran away with a 76-0 win.
This week, Jasper will be on road at Bridge City, while Silsbee will have their hands full with Newton coming to town, and WO-S will be hosting LC-M.
