Officials at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville say that Bowers Stadium was used Monday as a food distribution site to help those who have been economically impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Aerial drone footage showed long lines of vehicles around the stadium as people waited to collect food from volunteers at work stations on the parking lot.

According to university employee Emily Binetti, the Houston Food Bank launched “Neighborhood Super Site” distributions in different areas of the region in and around Huntsville.

Binetti said that each vehicle was loaded with approximately 60 to 80 pounds of food, which included fresh produce, frozen meat, dairy products, bread, non-perishables, and other food items.

Bowers Stadium is very familiar to both the football and soccer programs at Jasper High School. The stadium has been as a venue for many playoff games for the last several decades.
