A fugitive who managed to elude capture for about 36 hours was located and taken into custody on Saturday afternoon.
According to Jasper County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan, deputies had been searching for Daniel Hooks, who had a Texas Department of Criminal Justice parole violation warrant, and Duncan said the man was also wanted in other counties for various crimes.
It all began on Thursday night when Hooks fled from deputies in the Bon Ami Community between Jasper and Kirbyville. He was spotted again on Friday afternoon in the same area, but again he managed to elude capture.
However, that wasn't the case on Saturday afternoon. Jasper County deputies were assisted by deputies from the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department and one of their tracking dogs. They were able to locate and take Hooks into custody.
Duncan and other Jasper County deputies were assisted in the capture by Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department Chase Team Supervisor Ricky Stevens and Deputy Dustin Williams, along with their K-9 Duke.
The capture of Daniel Hooks was Duke's 99th capture.
Hooks is currently in the Jasper County Jail.
