As this area continues to be bombarded with scam calls that began over a week ago, a new twist by scammers has emerged in which they’re posing as City of Jasper employees.

Jasper Police Lieutenant Garrett Foster is asking KJAS News to warn citizens that residents are reporting that they’re receiving telephone calls which show “City of Jasper” and the City Hall telephone number on their caller ID.

City Secretary Karen Pumphrey wrote in an email to Police Chief Gerald Hall that the scammers are saying that they work for the City of Jasper and they’re asking for personal information.

Police say if you receive one of these calls, do not give the caller any information. If you want to know for sure that you are talking to someone in Jasper City Hall, hang up and call City Hall direct at 409-384-4651.
