The ice is gone, but power problems persist in counties to the north of here - especially in Shelby and Nacogdoches Counties - according to Brittney Ford with Deep East Texas Electric Co-Op (DETEC).

According to Ford, as of Monday morning there were still some 3,321 power outages in Shelby County and 2,749 in Nacogdoches County. Ford said that it could be as late as Friday of this week before those two counties are completely restored.

Closer to our area, Ford said as of Monday morning there were still 114 DETEC customers in Sabine County with no power, and 1 customer in Newton County without electricity.

According to Ford, the winter storm resulted in power losses to an estimated total of more than 23,000 meters, and over the last week work crews have restored electricity to approximately 16,500 members.
