Emergency crews in Jasper were very busy Friday morning working a major accident involving a stolen vehicle and leaving both drivers injured. It happened shortly before 8:00 on Highway 190 West at the entrance to WalMart.

Jasper Police Lieutenant Garrett Foster said officers determined that a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck was westbound and ran the red light, crashing into the front driver-side quarter panel of a 2018 Hyundai Sonata which had a green light and was pulling out from the WalMart parking lot.

The driver of the car, Stephon Johnson, 27, of Newton, was flown from the scene by medical helicopter, while the driver of the truck, Billy Mock, 47, of Jasper, was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Foster said the truck had been stolen in Fort Bend County in February and was displaying a license plate that belonged to a different vehicle.

Foster said Mock has not been taken into custody and officers are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the case and how he came to be in possession of the stolen truck.
