Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said on Thursday that so far there have been no leads in an investigation into damage at two cemeteries in the northern part of the county.

Late last month, Rowles said it was discovered that numerous headstones had been intentionally knocked over and broken at both the Farrsville Community Cemetery and the Liberty Community Cemetery.

Rowles said that due to the fact that the cemeteries are so close to each other, the damage occurred at approximately the same time, and the damage at each cemetery was identical, he felt that the same person, or persons, were responsible.

Meanwhile, Rowles said the investigation is continuing and he asked for anyone that has any information about the crimes to come forward. You can call the Newton County Sheriff’s Department at 409-379-3636 or any law enforcement agency, and you do not have to give your name.
