Coronavirus cases are continuing to increase in this region, but our immediate area, Jasper, Newton, Tyler, and Sabine Counties still have no confirmed illnesses for the time being.
As of Thursday, March 26th, 2020:
~ To our northwest, there is now one confirmed case in both Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties..
~ To our east, confirmed cases have increased with two cases in Vernon Parish and three cases in Beauregard Parish.
~ To our south in the Golden Triangle, Jefferson County now has eight cases, while Hardin County now has four, and Orange County still has one. Nearby Calcasieu Parish has eleven cases.
Coronavirus patient Michael Westbrook, who was the Hardin-Jefferson ISD Band Director, died on Thursday after being hospitalized with the illness. It's not known if he was counted among the Jefferson or Hardin County cases, so the numbers in one of those counties will drop one.
Across Texas, Dallas County still leads the state with a total of 247 cases and 7 deaths. Governor Greg Abbot in a Thursday afternoon press conference said that the state has a total of 1,424 cases and 18 deaths.
In Louisiana, the New Orleans area is hardest hit with 827 cases and 37 deaths, while statewide there were 2,305 cases and 83 deaths as of Thursday.
Across the United States, New York City has the worst outbreak in the country with over 20,000 active cases and nearly 300 deaths.
