A driver said he hit a patch of standing water and lost control, resulting in his car hitting a tree and then landing in a water filled ditch late Wednesday afternoon. It happened shortly after 4:00 during a heavy rainstorm on Highway 190 across from Howdy’s Liquor Store, at the Jasper/Newton County line.

Emergency crews from both Jasper and Newton County arrived to find the unknown man with a very minor cut to his leg, and the back of his car in the ditch.

A crew from Jasper Towing & Recovery worked to winch the car out of the ditch and back up to the highway.
