Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Investigator John Cooper says a work truck that had been stolen late Sunday night or early Monday morning was recovered on Wednesday – not very far from where it had been taken.
According to Cooper, deputies found the truck in a wooded area at the intersection of County Roads 200 and 201. The 2004 Ford F-650 had been taken from the Thomas Edward Smith residence on Highway 96 in Brookeland.
Cooper had previously stated that the truck and numerous pieces of equipment on it which made its value well over $100,000.00. However, Cooper said that when it was found, no equipment had been removed.
Cooper also said the suspects removed a battery from an 18-wheeler on the property and tried to use it to start a Ford F-250 to steal it. However, Cooper said they gave up when they realized that the battery wouldn't fit in the truck.
No suspects are in custody and the sheriff’s department is asking for anyone with any information about the crime to contact them. You do not have to give your name.
