Jasper Police Lieutenant Garrett Foster said on Wednesday that the department is preparing for the possibility of severe weather as forecasters say a potential hurricane is brewing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Foster said although it’s still too soon to know for sure if the Jasper area will be affected, the department is still preparing itself.

According to Foster, the City of Jasper has acquired several portable stop signs that can be deployed at intersections should the power go out. Foster said in the past, the department had to borrow stop signs from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Foster also said city workers have been checking their generator, and the department will also make sure their fleet is fueled up.
