Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles says a Wednesday evening shooting death is under investigation. According to Rowles it happened at about 8:00 at a location on Farm to Market Road 2626, in the northeast portion of the county.
Rowles says that the male victim was shot in the arm and he was rushed to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.
According to Rowles, the alleged shooter told investigators that he did so because he was "in fear of serious bodily injury".
Rowles said no charges have been filed, and the incident would remain under investigation.
Meanwhile, an autopsy was performed on the victim on Thursday in the Golden Triangle.
