The Newton County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday released the name of a woman who was discovered deceased over the weekend in an outbuilding behind a house. Meanwhile, Sheriff Billy Rowles said that an autopsy conducted in the Golden Triangle on Monday returned with inconclusive results as to the cause of death. However, the results of toxicology and other tests are still pending.

She has been identified as 32-year-old Ashley Lynn Carey, of the Navasota area.

According to Rowles, deputies were sent to a location on Farm to Market Road 2626 on Saturday morning where they believe that the female had been dead for approximately 2-3 days.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike Greer, who ordered the autopsy.

Rowles said the Texas Rangers are also involved in the investigation.
