The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Woodville woman is undergoing treatment for the injuries she received in a late Sunday afternoon accident in northern Newton County.

Sergeant Stephanie Davis said 75-year-old Patsy Treadway was driving westbound on Highway 63 about 5 miles west of Burkeville when her 2014 Nissan passenger car went off the highway and landed in a water filled ditch.

Davis said Treadway told the investigating trooper that she believed that she fell asleep at the wheel.

Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth noted that Treadway's head struck and broke the windshield of the vehicle.

Treadway was transported by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital for what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
