Policeman watch as a volunteer of the Jasper Fire Department extinguishes the car fire.

Someone smoking in the back seat of a car is thought to be the cause of a fire that severely damaged the vehicle.

The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to 619 Dennis Drive on the north side of town, shortly before 7:00 on Friday morning, when it was reported that a Ford Taurus sedan was on fire.

The firefighters arrived to find that someone had already knocked the blaze down with a fire extinguisher and the firemen soon had completely doused the flames.

No injuries resulted from the incident. However, the vehicle which was owned by Johnny Brooks, was severely damaged.

Jasper Fire Marshall Brandon Duckworth is investigating the incident.
