Newton County Judge Kenneth Weeks on Tuesday ordered more closures throughout the county as he and other local officials try to prevent any cases of Coronavirus of striking the county.
According to an order issued by Judge Weeks, as of 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020, all bars, nightclubs, social clubs, barber shops, beauty shops, nail salons, massage parlors, gymnasiums, fitness clubs, tattoo parlors, and 8-liner game rooms are to close and remain so until further notice.
This is on top of other orders already in place in Newton County, such as the 24-hour-a-day curfew for youth 18 and younger which stipulates that they cannot be off of their property unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, or, if they’re going to or from work.
Last Week Judge Weeks also ordered all restaurants to close dining rooms and their food could be to-go only.
Additionally, Judge Weeks ordered no gatherings of more than 10 people at one location.
So far there are no confirmed Coronavirus cases in Newton County, but over the weekend two cases were confirmed just across the Sabine River; one in Beauregard Parish and one in Vernon Parish. Also, there is now one case in Orange County, six cases in Jefferson County, and two cases in Hardin County.
