Two Jasper County deputies have been recognized for their recent action while dealing with a suicidal man, and for bringing the situation to a peaceful end.
On Tuesday, Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan presented certificates of accommodation and excellence to Deputies Rhett Forsythe and Taylhr Miller.
According to Duncan, on May 4th the two deputies responded to a man threatening suicide in the Kirbyville area, and they arrived to find him holding a knife to his neck, and also attempting ‘suicide by cop’, where a person tries to use a weapon against an officer in an effort to get the officer to use lethal force against them.
Duncan said the deputies used their knowledge and training to diffuse the situation, saving the man’s life and affording him the much needed opportunity to receive professional help.
Duncan said “We really want to acknowledge these guys because they just don’t get acknowledged enough”.
