The Texas Department of Public Safety on Saturday released updated information about a late Friday afternoon head-on crash in Newton County. It happened shortly before 5:00 on Farm to Market Road 1416, about 4 miles south of Highway 190 between Bon Wier and Belgrade.
According to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis, a 2016 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on FM 1416, and a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on FM 1416. Davis said for an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet crossed the center dividing line and struck the Ford head-on.
According to Davis, the driver of the Ford, 63-year-old Andy Hubbard, of Bon Weir, was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the Chevrolet, 17-year-old Conner Mitchell, of Bon Weir, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries.
Emergency crews in Newton County responded shortly before 5:00 Friday afternoon to a report of a two-vehicle major accident. It occurred on Farm to Market Road 1416, about 4 miles south of Highway 190 between Bon Wier and Belgrade.
Reportedly, one of the vehicles was on fire.
