Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby said Wednesday that one suspect was still in jail and another still on the run in connection with the attempt to burglarize or steal an automatic teller machine from a bank in Burkeville earlier this week.
According to Burby, 38 year old Billy Dewayne Adams is still in the Newton County Jail where he is being held under $75,000 bail and the other suspect, who he identified as Leo Burt Mitchell, 40, was still at large.
The crime occurred shortly before 6:00 on Monday morning at the Sabine State Bank on Highway 63. Burby said Adams was captured a few hours later. However, Mitchell is believed to have stolen a dark gray, 2017 Ford F-150 pick up truck bearing Louisiana license plate C0549061 and made a run for it.
Burby said both suspects lived in and around the area Natchitoches and Florien, Louisiana and that he and other officers believed that Mitchell might be hit out there.
