The Jasper County Grand Jury has indicted a couple who are accused of committing a burglary of a home, which then burned down.
Shalana Kay Gray and Michael Wade Foy, Jr., both 40 and both of Jasper, were arrested in early March after a fire destroyed a home on Garland Smith Road in the very early morning hours. Sheriff Mitchel Newman said firefighters and deputies became suspicious when it was discovered that a vehicle on the property, which was far away from the home, had partially burned and it was obvious that it had been intentionally set on fire.
Newman said the next day when investigators were on the scene, Gray and Olds showed up, and it was discovered that items which had been taken from the home were discovered in their vehicle.
Foy has been indicted on one count of burglary of a habitation and one count of burglary of a building, while Gray has been indicted on one count of burglary of a habitation, one count of burglary of a building, and one count of possession of a controlled substance - specifically methamphetamine.
Although investigators said at the time that they felt the fire was intentionally set, neither Foy nor Gray were ever charged with arson.
