Kirbyville Wildcats baseball team

The Kirbyville Wildcats baseball team went 9 full rounds with the top ranked team in the state in class 3-A, but ultimately fell to the Wall Hawks in the State Semi-Final game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Friday morning.

Wall jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and later on in the top of the 4th, Kirbyville got the bats going and tied it up at 2 each.

Wall got a go-ahead run in the bottom of the 5th and then the Wildcats again tied it up at 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning.

Late in the game Kirbyville got their first lead of the day at 4-3 and they rode it into the top of the 7th.

Wall, at bat, and facing a do-or-die situation in the bottom of the 7th, took advantage of Kirbyville pitching changes. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, a Kirbyville walk sent Wall’s tying run across the plate and the game went into extra innings tied at 4-all.

Wall was able to score the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th for a final score of 5-4.

Wall will play in the 3-A State Championship game at 9:00 Saturday morning at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Kirbyville returns home and finishes the season with a 33-8-1 record.
