A man involved in a Friday night high-speed chase that began near Dam B and ended in a crash near Beech Grove has now been officially charged with several crimes.
46-year-old Edwin Charles Miller, who is originally from the Houston area but now lists a Kirbyville address, remained in the Jasper County Jail on Tuesday under a combined total bond of $29,500.00.
Miller has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Possession of a Dangerous Drug.
It all began at about 9:30 when a Texas Parks & Wildlife Park Police officer tried to stop Miller for speeding. However, Miller fled in an older model pickup truck eastbound on Highway 190, and then southbound on Farm to Market Road 777 at the Jasper County Airport.
The chase abruptly ended when Miller was unable to round a corner at County Road 317. The truck hit several trees and rolled onto its side.
Miller was immediately taken into custody. However, an unidentified female passenger was trapped in the vehicle and the Beech Grove Fire Department responded with the Jaws-of-Life to get her out.
Both were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries, and Miller was later booked into the Jasper County Jail.
The name of the female or her condition was not available and it’s unknown if criminal charges will be filed against her.
