The Texas Department of Public Safety says a portion of a load that fell from an 18-wheeler caused a major accident in Tyler County on Monday afternoon, and so far they’ve not been able to locate the big-rig or its driver. DPS Sergeant Shana Clark says it happened at about 2:00 on U.S. Highway 69, just south of Colmesneil.

According to Clark, the 18-wheeler was traveling southbound in the inside lane and was followed by a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, also in the inside lane, and a 2012 Chevrolet passenger vehicle, in the outside lane.

Clark said the material that fell from the trailer wrapped around the motorcycle which sent it into the path of the car where it was hit.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Walter Tant, 51, of Port Arthur. He was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment, there’s no word on his condition. Davis said the driver of the car, 16-year-old Michael Good, of Colmesneil, was not injured.
