Firemen strongly suspect arson to be the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on the north side of town on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 2800 and County Road 124, shortly after 3:00 and arrived to find flames coming from the windows in the back of the wood frame structure and immediately began to battle the blaze.

A person living in the area said that no one had lived in the home for some time and that it was not occupied when the fire broke out. Firemen also noted that electricity to the home had been disconnected.

The home was a complete loss, but no injuries resulted from the incident.

It was also the first callout for the new Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department. They, along with the Angelina River Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with equipment and manpower to assist Jasper firefighters.
