June 21st is the day set aside by the Alzheimer’s Association to stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer’s disease. Here in Jasper, the local association was set up in the gazebo on the Jasper County Courthouse Square with cupcakes and lemonade, asking people to donate to help end the dreaded disease.
The Longest Day is the day with the most light, namely the Summer Solstice, and the slogan for the day is, “The day with the most light is the day we fight”. Liz McClurg is responsible for the outreach on the Courthouse Square and along with Jessica Hornsby they are asking the citizens of Jasper to consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association for continued research and treatments for this terrible disease.
“We encourage anyone to come by and donate and get a cupcake and a glass of lemonade”, Hornsby said. Nationally, there are activities being hosted by local associations to increase awareness for care and support for research.
