A celebration of James Wesley Gray’s Life, age 85, of Jasper, Texas, will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home, Jasper, Texas 75951.

James Wesley Gray, 85, of Jasper, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020, after a short illness. He was born October 21, 1934, in Milam, Texas, to Ottie Mae and Percy Gray. He was raised in Milam, Hemphill and Nederland graduating from Nederland High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. He served 8 years and was Honorably Discharged in 1962 as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed by B.F. Goodrich Rubber Plant in Port Neches, Texas, for many years. After retirement he moved to Westwood on Lake Sam Rayburn in Jasper where he and his wife lived for over 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature, fishing, and he especially loved gardening and working in his yard. He was an active member of Rayburn Baptist Church.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Barbara Ann Gray, and his son, Russell Gray of Dallas, Texas.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Raeburn and husband, Brandt, of Johnson City, Texas; step-daughter Debra “Debbie” Whigham and husband Charlie, of Silsbee, Texas; grandchildren Holly Penland of Kountze, Texas; Christina Schloeffel and husband David of San Antonio, Texas; Christopher Whigham of Silsbee, Texas; Katherine Whigham of Silsbee, Texas; great-grandchildren Christopher Warren and Taylen Irvine of Kountze, Texas; Harrison and Mollie Schloeffel of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Gwen Luce of Forney, Texas; cousin Harold Smith and wife Cindy of Jasper, Texas; four nieces, one nephew, seven great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces.
