Dawgs run over Red Devils 64-0

The Jasper Bulldogs blanked the Huntington Red Devils 64-0 on Friday night here in Jasper. Head Coach Darrell Barbay’s squad improves to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in District 9-4A as they’ll now enjoy a week off.

In the first quarter, Jasper scored on touchdown runs of 11 and 38 yards, both by Deandre Limbrick, and Terrion Collins intercepted a Huntington pass and returned it 50 yards for a TD.

In the second quarter, Jasper continued scoring with touchdown runs of 33 yards by Montavien Hunt, 26 yards from Carl Limbrick, and Nolan Smith Smith punched one in from a few yards out.

Cruz and Hannity to be in Beaumont

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz is bringing his re-election campaign to Jefferson County for a rally Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the Jefferson County GOP.

The rally is set for 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Jack Brooks Regional Airport. Talk radio host and Fox News personality Sean Hannity will be there for the Saturday rally.

Lowe's employees provide a good environment for women and children in a bad situation

Employees of the Jasper Lowe's Home Improvement Store on Friday began a two-day project to help provide a good, welcoming environment for women and children who have found themselves in a bad situation.

The store provided the materials and the employees provided the muscle to beautify the exterior of the Pineywoods Safe House, an organization in Jasper that provides temporary shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.

Jasper Police recover stolen VW from Chambers County, arrest suspect

Complete details have not yet been released, but we do know that Jasper Police early Friday evening recovered a vehicle that had been stolen in Chambers County, and also arrested the suspect.

Shortly after 6:00, officers went to the Jasper WalMart parking lot after dispatchers received information that a stolen late model Volkswagen Touareg was possibly there.

Health Fair a great success

The Heart Institute of East Texas and Boston Scientific teamed up on Friday to host a very large Health Fair in Jasper, and organizers are calling it a great success with a large turnout.

Numerous companies involved directly in health care were part of the event, as well as those indirectly involved by providing equipment and other resources to both health care providers and patients.

Body found in Orange County, investigation underway

KOGT News in Orange is reporting that a woman, whose body was found in the dark along FM 1130 between Orange and Mauriceville, was hit by “something”, but Orange police say they don’t know if her death was intentional or an accident.

“We are looking for anyone to give information to us”, Detective Captain Robert Enmon said.

Turnout for handicapped rodeo exceeds all expectations

Turn out was great for the Handicapped Rodeo which was held at the Jasper Lions Club Rodeo Arena on Friday.

The event which is dubbed as "A Day in the Dirt" is sponsored each year by the Jasper County Cowboy Church allows children with disabilities a chance to experience the rodeo life.

Police investigate threat at Jasper High School

KJAS Radio News has learned that police are investigating an alleged threat at the Jasper High School.

Officers with the Jasper Police Department confirmed Friday morning that the threat, which was reportedly written on a wall of the boy's restroom and discovered by a teacher on Wednesday.

Big-rig goes off of I-10 and crashes into Beaumont car dealership

An 18-wheeler driver reportedly suffered a medical emergency early Thursday afternoon and his rig ended up going off of Interstate 10 and crashing into the lot of a Beaumont car dealership.

The truck and trailer went off of the main lanes and onto the service road where it hit a car, and then continued onto the lot of Mike Smith BMW, where it struck a few cars.

Log truck driver injured in Newton County crash

A log truck driver underwent medical treatment following a crash involving his fully loaded big-rig Thursday afternoon in northwest Newton County. It happened shortly after 3:00 on Highway 190, about 5 miles west of Newton.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis, 61-year-old Alvin Gill, of Houston was driving the 1995 Mack truck and pole trailer westbound when, for an unknown reason, he lost control and the truck went off of the north side of the highway where it rolled over, spilling its load of logs.

MISO says East Texas Trans Co is one of nine finalists for 500kv line project

On Wednesday, KJAS News reported that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission had publicly served notice that a company named East Texas Trans Co would head up a $129.7 million project to build a 500-kv power line through Deep East Texas, crossing portions of Jasper, Newton, and Sabine Counties.

However, Mark Brown, a communications adviser for Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) said on Thursday that East Texas Trans Co has not yet officially been selected for the project, and is instead one of nine finalists for the job.

Company prepares for $129 million power line project across Jasper, Newton, and Sabine Counties

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has publicly served notice that a company named East Texas Trans Co will head up a massive $129.7 million project which will run a 500-kv power line through Deep East Texas across Jasper, Newton, and Sabine Counties. Once completed, it's hoped that the new line will help to meet an increase in demand for electricity in Sabine County, which has experienced tremendous growth in just the last few years.

A dozen companies filed for the project in September of last year, and East Texas Trans Co landed the contract.

Jasper #1 in Dave Campbell’s, #2 in Max Preps, and… snubbed again by the AP

The Jasper Bulldogs football team continues to win, and win BIG. At 7-0, the Dawgs are winning by an average of 36 points per game with an offense that averages 46 points an outing, and a defense that is allowing an average of only 10 points per game.

It should be pointed out that most of those points allowed by the defense came in the second half after the offense established a blowout in the first half, and Head Coach Darrell Barbay began relaxing the team and filtering in younger players.

Men go all-out to raise funds for Pineywoods Safe House

Several local dignitaries - all men - got all dressed up on Tuesday evening to help raise funds for Pineywoods Safe House, a local shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.

The event, called "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes", was a challenge for the men to wear high-heel shoes and walk one lap around the Jasper County Courthouse Square. Some of the men wore the shoes with their regular clothing, while some men, like Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman, donned a pink tu-tu, and at least one man - KJAS owner Mike Lout - wore hardly anything at all.

Re-scan channels if KFDM or KBTV are not working properly on your TV

If KFDM channel 6 or KBTV channel 4 were not working properly on your television on Wednesday, engineers at KFDM say you need to go into the menu of your TV and re-scan your channels.

This problem should only affect TV’s that have a cable line running directly into them, or if you’re using an antenna.
